Materia develops, manufactures and markets furniture and interior furnishings for public settings. The foundation of our business is products with features that are the result of careful study, combined with high technical quality and contemporary styling.
Products from Materia have won a large number of design awards and are featured in the collections of several design museums.
In addition to our standard range we welcome the opportunity to create individual products that are tailored to the client’s needs.
Materia’s target clients are specifying architects, retailers and buyers and users in design conscious and culturally aware organizations and companies. Our products are mainly distributed through retailers in Sweden and abroad.
Our product range is made up of four concept areas:
materia.meetings develops and manufactures furniture for companies that want to design creative, efficient and ergonomic meeting spaces that have a modern, international style. A defining aspect of our design work is an unconventional approach to practical work place requirements and how they should be realized. As a result you will often find that materia.meetings offers new, exciting and surprising solutions – in other wordsideas materialized… The product range consists of meeting place furniture : armchairs, sofas, tables, chairs and barstools.
materia.accessories develops and manufactures functional and complementary interior design accessories with contemporary style. The product range consists of storage solutions for magazines and clothing, and for managing office waste.
Materia has showrooms in Tranås, Stockholm and Oslo. These creative spaces illustrate how companies can stamp their identity on their premises and communicate and emphasize their brands with the aid of products from Materia.
Materia was founded in 1992 by Kersti Sandin and Lars Bülow, both interior architects (SIR/MSA) and industrial designers (MSD). They had previously worked for several years as designers to some of the leading furniture and lighting companies in Sweden.
Production began in Tranås in 1994. In 1998 the company head office was moved from Stockholm and the “blue factory” was acquired. The workforce grew, and in autumn 2002 the production facilities were further extended with the addition of the “yellow factory” for assembly and logistics. In the same year a new showroom was opened at Sibyllegatan 34, on the corner of Karlavägen in Stockholm.
Under the guidance of Kersti Sandin and Lars Bülow, Materia has quickly grown into one of the most prominent design companies in the industry. Since 2004 Materia has been an independent brand of the office furniture group Kinnarps.
